Pantoscopic Measurement

Spectangle
To begin, a photo must be taken to determine the pantoscopic angle. Tap on the camera icon located in the bottom right corner to activate the camera. The photo required should be of the patient’s RIGHT side. To ensure the correct position, a ghost image can be overlaid by clicking the ghost icon located in the bottom left corner. To remove, simply re-click.

To best align for photo capture, position the iPad approximately 4 inches from temple/frame edge. Make sure the patient is in a relaxed, comfortable position and focus the camera at the edge of the temple. Adjust the camera to capture the frame angle at outside edge. Tap the camera icon to begin the photo capture. The camera will automatically take the photo when the iPad is at a level position. If you feel comfortable with the clarity and angle position, tap the “Use” button at the bottom right. If the photo needs to be taken again, tap the “Retake” button at the bottom left.

The photo will be ready to measure after tapping the “Use” button – you’ll see a red vertical line with outlined boxes attached to the ends. These boxes are the locations to adjust the angle. By touching either box and holding it there for about a second, the line will turn green and can be moved into alignment. You can adjust the photo size by zooming in and out with the pinching gesture. The goal is to adjust the line to reflect the angle of the pantoscopic measurement.

Now you’re ready for the next measurement…
